Wabi Sabi Restaurant

Wabi Sabi Restaurant

Ventured out to Wabi Sabi Teppan Steak House & Sushi Bar last night. Its a clean and charming dive decorated in a Spartan Japanese style.  I found the chefs entertaining and funny.  They served miso soup and a salad and ordered  a sashimi platter (tuna, red snapper and salmon) with a crunch roll appetizer and finished it up with a their signature Fire Roll.  Everything was really well balanced. Food presentation, flavorful food and and great service.  Atmosphere is relaxing, game played on flat screen TV over the bar.

Worth revisiting.

The Cure - Plainsong (Disintegration)

"i think it's dark and it looks like rain" you said
"and the wind is blowing like it's the end of the
world" you said "and it's so cold it's like the
cold if you were dead" and then you smiled for
a second.

"i think I'm old and I'm in pain" you said
"and it's all running out like it's the end of the
world" you said "and it's so cold it's like the
cold if you were dead" and then you smiled for
a second

sometimes you make me feel like I'm living at
the edge of the world like I'm living at the edge
of the world "it's just the way i smile" you said

The Cure - Pictures of You (Disintegration)

I've been looking so long at these pictures of you
That I almost believe that they're real
I've been living so long with my pictures of you
That I almost believe that the pictures are
All I can feel

Remembering
You standing quiet in the rain
As I ran to your heart to be near
And we kissed as the sky fell in
Holding you close
How I always held close in your fear
Remembering
You running soft through the night
You were bigger and brighter and whiter than snow
And screamed at the make-believe
Screamed at the sky
And you finally found all your courage
To let it all go

Remembering
You fallen into my arms
Crying for the death of your heart
You were stone white
So delicate
Lost in the cold
You were always so lost in the dark
Remembering
You how you used to be
Slow drowned

You were angels
So much more than everything
Hold for the last time then slip away quietly
Open my eyes
But I never see anything

If only I'd thought of the right words
I could have held on to your heart
If only I'd thought of the right words
I wouldn't be breaking apart
All my pictures of you

Looking so long at these pictures of you
But I never hold on to your heart
Looking so long for the words to be true
But always just breaking apart
My pictures of you

There was nothing in the world
That I ever wanted more
Than to feel you deep in my heart
There was nothing in the world
That I ever wanted more
Than to never feel the breaking apart
All my pictures of you

The Cure - Closedown (Disintegration)

I'm running out of time I'm out of step and
closing down and never sleep for wanting hours
the empty hours of greed and uselessly always
the need to feel again the real belief of
something more than mockery if only i could
fill my heart with love

The Cure - Lovesong (Disintegration)

whenever I'm alone with you you make me feel
like i am home again whenever I'm alone with
you you make me feel like i am whole again

whenever I'm alone with you you make me feel
like i am young again whenever I'm alone with
you you make me feel like i am fun again

however far away i will always love you however
long i stay i will always love you whatever
words i say i will always love you i will always
love you

whenever I'm alone with you you make me feel
like i am free again whenever I'm alone with
you you make me feel like i am clean again

however far away i will always love you however
long i stay i will always love you whatever
words i say i will always love you i will always
love you

The Cure - Last Dance (Disintegration - Entreat Version)

i'm so glad you came i'm so glad
you remembered to see how we're endeding our last
dance together expectant too puctual but
prettier than ever i really believed that this time
it's forever

but older than me now more constant more real
and the fur and the mouth and the innocence
turned to hair and contentment that hangs in
abasement a woman now standing where once
there was only a girl

I'm so glad you came I'm so glad you
remembered the walking through walls in the
heart of December the blindness of happiness
of falling down laughing and i really believed
that this time was forever

but Christmas falls late now flatter and colder
and never as bright as when we used to fall all
this in an instant before i can kiss you a woman
now standing were once there was only a girl

I'm so glad that you came I'm so glad you
remembered to see how we're ending our last
dance together reluctantly cautiously but
prettier than ever i really believed that this time
it's forever

but Christmas falls late now flatter and colder
and never as bright as when we used to fall and
even if we drink i don't think we would kiss in
the way that we did when the woman was only a
girl

The Cure - Lullaby (Disintegration)

on candy stripe legs spider man comes
softly through the shadow of the evening sun
stealing past the windows of the blissfully dead
looking for the victim shivering in bed
searching out fear in the gathering gloom and
suddenly! a movement in the corner of the
room! and there is nothing i can do when i
realize with freight that the spider man is having
me for dinner tonight

quietly he laughs and shaking his head creeps
closer now closer to the foot of the bed and
softer than shadow and quicker than flies his
arms are all around me and his tongue in my
eyes "be still be calm be quiet now my precious
boy don't struggle like that or i will only love
you more for it's much too late to get away or
turn on the light the spider man is having you
for dinner tonight"

and i feel like I'm being eaten by a thousand
million shivering furry holes and i know that in
the morning i will wake up in the shivering cold
and the spider man is always hungry...

The Cure - Fascination Street (Disintegration)

oh it's opening time down on fascination street
so let's cut the conversation and get out for a
bit because i feel it all fading and paling and i'm
begging to drag you down with me to kick the
last nail in yeah i like you in that like i like you
to scream but if you open your mouth then i
cant be responsible for quite what goes in or
to care what comes out so just pull on your hair
just pull on your pout and let's move to the beat
like we know that it's over if you slip going
under slip over my shoulder so just pull on your
face just pull on your feet and let's hit opening
time down on fascination street

so pull on your hair pull on your pout cut the
conversation just open your mouth pull on your
face pull on your feet and let's hit opening time
down on fascination street

The Cure - Prayers for Rain (Disintegration)

you shatter me your grip on me a hold on me
so dull it kills you stifle me infectious sense of
hopelessness and prayers for rain i suffocate i
breathe in dirt and nowhere shines but desolate
and drab the hours all spent on killing time
again all waiting for the rain

you fracture me your hands on me a touch so
plain so stale it kills you strangle me entangle
me in hopelessness and prayers for rain i
deteriorate i live in dirt and nowhere glows but
drearily and tired the hours all spent on killing
time again all waiting for the rain

The Cure - Untitled (Disintegration)

hopelessly drift in the eyes of the ghost again
down on my knees and my hands in the air again
pushing my face in the memory of you again
but i never know if it's real never know how i
wanted to feel never quite said what i wanted
to say to you never quite managed the words to
explain to you never quite knew how to make
them believable and now the time has gone
another time undone hopelessly fighting the
devil futility feeling the monster climb deeper
inside of me feeling him gnawing my heart away
hungrily I'll never lose this pain never dream of
you again

The Cure - Homesick (Disintegration)

hey hey! just one more and I'll walk away all
the everything you win turns to nothing today
and i forget when to move when my mouth is this
dry and my eyes are bursting hearts in a blood-
stained sky oh it was sweet it was wild and oh
how we...i trembled stuck in honey honey
cling to me so just one more just one more go
inspire in me the desire in me to never go home

oh just one more and I'll walk away all the
everything you win turns to nothing today so
just one more just one more go inspire in me
the desire in me to never go home

The Cure - Disintegration (Disintegration)

This IS my favorite song off of "Disintegration" Album.

oh i miss the kiss of treachery the shameless
kiss of vanity the soft and the black and the
velvety up tight against the side of me and
mouth and eyes and heart all bleed and run in
thickening streams of greed as bit by bit it
starts the need to just let go my party piece

oh i miss the kiss of treachery the aching kiss
before i feed the stench of a love for a younger
meat and the sound that it makes when it cuts
in deep the holding up on bended knees the
addiction of duplicities as bit by bit it starts
the need to just let go my party piece

but i never said i would stay to the end so i
leave you with babies and hoping for frequency
screaming like this in the hope of the secrecy
screaming me over and over and over i leave
you with photographs pictures of trickery
stains on the carpet and stains on the scenery
songs about happiness murmured in dreams
when we both us knew how the ending would
be...

so it's all come back round to breaking apart
again breaking apart like I'm made up of glass
again making it up behind my back again
holding my breath for the fear of sleep again
holding it up behind my head again cut in deep
to the heart of the bone again round and round
and round and it's coming apart again over and
over and over

now that i know that I'm breaking to pieces I'll
pull out my heart and I'll feed it to anyone
crying for sympathy crocodile cry for the love
of the crowd and the three cheers from
everyone dropping through sky through the
glass of the roof through the roof of your mouth
through the mouth of your eye through the eye
of the needle it's easier for me to get closer to
heaven than ever feel whole again

i never said i would stay to the end i knew i
would leave you with babies and everything
screaming like this in the hole of sincerity
screaming me over and over and over i leave
you with photographs pictures of trickery
stains on the carpet and stains on the memory
songs about
happiness murmured in dreams when we both
of us knew how the end always is...

how the end always is...

The Cure - The Same Deep Water As You (Disintegration)

My second favorite song on "Disintegration" Album.

kiss me goodbye pushing out before i sleep
can't you see i try swimming the same deep
water as you is hard "the shallow drowned lose
less than we" you breathe the strangest twist
upon your lips "and we shall be together..."

"kiss me goodbye bow your head and join with
me" and face pushed deep reflections meet
the strangest twist upon your lips and
disappear the ripples clear and laughing break
against your feet and laughing break the mirror
sweet "so we shall be together..."

"kiss me goodbye" pushing out before i sleep
it's lower now and slower now the strangest
twist upon your lips but i don't see and i don't
feel but tightly hold up silently my hands
before my fading eyes and in my eyes your
smile the very last thing before i go...
the very last thing before i go...
the very last thing before i go...

i will kiss you i will kiss you i will kiss you
forever on nights like this i will kiss you i will
kiss you and we shall be together...

The Cure - How Beautfiul You Are

This is my favorite song from the "Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me" album.

The Cure - Lament

Lament is my favorite song off the "The Walk"

Baz Luhrman - Class of 99 The Sunscreen Song

Some years ago, someone shared this song with me. I was able to take comfort in it for it paralleled my life. It is time, I share with you,... words of wisdom.

Ladies and Gentlemen of the class of ’99
If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be
it. The long term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by
scientists whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable
than my own meandering
experience…I will dispense this advice now.

Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth; oh nevermind; you will not
understand the power and beauty of your youth until they have faded.
But trust me, in 20 years you’ll look back at photos of yourself and
recall in a way you can’t grasp now how much possibility lay before
you and how fabulous you really looked….You’re not as fat as you
imagine.

Don’t worry about the future; or worry, but know that worrying is as
effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing
bubblegum. The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that
never crossed your worried mind; the kind that blindside you at 4pm
on some idle Tuesday.

Do one thing everyday that scares you

Sing

Don’t be reckless with other people’s hearts, don’t put up with
people who are reckless with yours.

Floss

Don’t waste your time on jealousy; sometimes you’re ahead, sometimes
you’re behind…the race is long, and in the end, it’s only with
yourself.

Remember the compliments you receive, forget the insults; if you
succeed in doing this, tell me how.

Keep your old love letters, throw away your old bank statements.

Stretch

Don’t feel guilty if you don’t know what you want to do with your
life…the most interesting people I know didn’t know at 22 what they
wanted to do with their lives, some of the most interesting 40 year
olds I know still don’t.

Get plenty of calcium.

Be kind to your knees, you’ll miss them when they’re gone.

Maybe you’ll marry, maybe you won’t, maybe you’ll have children, maybe
you won’t, maybe you’ll divorce at 40, maybe you’ll dance the funky
chicken on your 75th wedding anniversary…what ever you do, don’t
congratulate yourself too much or berate yourself either – your
choices are half chance, so are everybody else’s. Enjoy your body,
use it every way you can…don’t be afraid of it, or what other people
think of it, it’s the greatest instrument you’ll ever
own..

Dance…even if you have nowhere to do it but in your own living room.

Read the directions, even if you don’t follow them.

Do NOT read beauty magazines, they will only make you feel ugly.

Get to know your parents, you never know when they’ll be gone for
good.

Be nice to your siblings; they are the best link to your past and the
people most likely to stick with you in the future.

Understand that friends come and go,but for the precious few you
should hold on. Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography and
lifestyle because the older you get, the more you need the people you
knew when you were young.

Live in New York City once, but leave before it makes you hard; live
in Northern California once, but leave before it makes you soft.

Travel.

Accept certain inalienable truths, prices will rise, politicians will
philander, you too will get old, and when you do you’ll fantasize
that when you were young prices were reasonable, politicians were
noble and children respected their elders.

Respect your elders.

Don’t expect anyone else to support you. Maybe you have a trust fund,
maybe you have a wealthy spouse; but you never know when either one
might run out.

Don’t mess too much with your hair, or by the time you're 40, it will
look 85.

Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who
supply it. Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of
fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the
ugly parts and recycling it for more than
it’s worth.

But trust me on the sunscreen…

Social Distortion - I Was Wrong

Well, when I was young
I was so full of fear
I hid behind anger, held back the tears
It was me against the world,
I was sure that I'd win
But the world fought back, punished me for my sins
Well I felt so alone, so insecure
I blamed you instead made sure I was heard
And they tried to warn me of my evil ways
But I couldn't hear what they had to say

I was wrong
Self destruction's got me again
I was wrong
I realize now that I was wrong

And I think about my loves,
well I've had a few. Well I'm sorry that I hurt them,
Did I hurt you too?
I took what I wanted
Put my heart on the shelf
But how can you love when you don't love yourself?
It was me against the world
I was sure that I'd win
The world fought back, punished me for my sins
And they tried to warn me
Of my evil ways
But I couldn't hear what they had to say
I was wrong
Self destruction's got me again
I was wrong
I realize now that I was wrong
I was wrong, yeah
I was wrong
I grew up fast
And I grew up hard
Something was wrong from the very start
I was fighting everybody
I was fighting everything
But the only one that I hurt was me
I got society's blood running down my face
Somebody help me get outta this place
How could someone's bad luck last so long?
Until I realized that I was wrong.
I was wrong
Self destruction's got me again
I was wrong
I realize now that I was wrong
I was wrong
Self destruction's got me again
I was wrong
The only moment that I was me
I was wrong

Goodman 3-ton Gas Furnace 70,000 BTU

Choose The Best Level Of Energy Efficiency

Finding a balance between your family's comfort and monthly energy costs is not always easy. The new Goodman GMH95 series 95% high efficiency furnace with multi-speed blower may just be the cost effective answer you're looking for.

And The Savings Don't End There

This Goodman furnace's 95% AFUE rating means 95 cents of each $1.00 of heating energy expense warms your home. Some older furnaces rate at only 60% AFUE, meaning only 60 cents of the fuel burned contributes to your home's heating.

The remaining 40 cents is lost energy--wasteful and expensive. Best of all, the Goodman 95% efficient furnace can lower your energy consumption by up to 50% when compared to an older, inefficient furnace.

Two Stage- Why Less is More

The two-stage feature of the Goodman GMV9 furnace is like having two furnaces in one. On the coldest days, the furnace operates in the high-stage mode at 100% capacity. But on most days, the furnace comfortably conserves energy by operating in the low-stage mode at just 70% capacity.

The GMH9 two-stage gas valve runs quietly on low stage 90% of the time, producing just 25% of the normal high-fire sound while significantly reducing energy consumption.

Standard Features

* Corrosion-resistant, aluminized-steel tubular heat exchanger and stainless-steel recuperative coil
* Lifetime Limited Warranty on Heat Exchanger plus 10-year Furnace Replacement Limited Warranty
* Designed for multi-position installation ? upflow, horizontal right or left
* Energy-saving Hot Surface Ignition system with Norton® Mini-Igniter and patented adaptive learning algorithm
* Energy-saving PSC, multi-speed, direct-drive blower motor
* Quiet, corrosion-resistant, induced-draft blower assembly
* Integrated furnace control with diagnostics
* Low-voltage terminal blocks
* Suitable for direct vent (2-pipe) or non-direct vent (1-pipe) applications
* Convenient left or right connection for gas and electric service
* All models comply with California NOx Standards
* 2-stage gas valve for efficient and cost effective operation

Cabinet Features

* Heavy-gauge, reinforced, fully insulated steel cabinet with durable, Architectural Gray baked-enamel finish
* Top venting is standard; alternate flue/vent located on right side
* Foil-faced insulation lines the heat exchanger compartment
* Bottom or side air inlet; removable, solid bottom

Special Sound Reducing Features

* Multi-speed blower motor
* Special sound isolated blower assembly
* Fully insulated cabinet
* Heavy gauge steel cabinet

You and your family will appreciate the whisper-quiet operation of the GMH9 furnace. Your Goodman furnace uses a multi-speed blower motor and a sound isolating assembly to reduce the noise common in other furnaces.

Upgraded Reliability For Longer Life

Goodman packs all the latest high-technology features into this furnace without breaking your budget.

Features like the energy-saving, reliable hot surface ignition system with patented adaptive learning algorithm to maximize the igniter life and the patented, corrosion-resistant, aluminized steel tubular heat exchanger with a stainless-steel recuperative coil for many years of trouble-free service.

In fact, Goodman guarantees the performance and backs with a Limited Lifetime Warranty. The GMH9 furnace is easily converted for use with propane with the addition of the field installed LPT-01A propane conversion kit for only $129.00.

The high-efficiency combustion process allows venting with 2 or 3 inch PVC without the need for a traditional chimney flue. And because it can be direct-vented to the outside fresh air can be used for combustion.

This is helpful if the air in the vicinity of the furnace is corrosive, such as around paint or chemical storage, and will protect the heat exchanger from the harmful effects.

As an added feature not commonly found on many furnaces, the Goodman 95% efficient furnace is a low Nox furnace, which emits fewer oxides of nitrogen than ordinary furnaces, contributing to better air quality.

The fuel stingy auto-ignition system eliminates the old-fashioned standing pilot for greater ignition dependability without the wasted energy.

Designed For Easier Installation

The furnace can be installed in an upflow position (ductwork above the furnace) or horizontally (furnace in an attic or crawlspace) without the need for modification.

Your installer will appreciate the thoughtful installation flexibility provided by the alternate top or right-hand flue venting. The convenient left or right connection for gas and electric service will make installation a snap.

The GMV9 series furnace can be installed almost anywhere in your home, including the attic, crawlspace, garage, closet, or alcove. The return air can be ducted through either side or from the bottom, depending on your particular need.

If your replacing a similar furnace with this Goodman GMV9 series furnace it will normally require about 4-6 hours to complete the job. Goodman has thought of just about everything to make installation quick and easy.

Finally the GMV9 furnace features a heavy-gauge, reinforced and insulated steel cabinet with a durable and attractive baked-enamel finish. This furnace will arrive at your home completely assembled and factory run-tested to ensure that your installation goes off without a hitch.

Movie Scene Nominee (week 1) - The Prophecy

Satan (Viggo Mortensen) is talking to Katherine in the movie Prophecy.

Movie Scene Nominee (week 2) - Devil's Advocate

Satan's (Al Pacino) speech to Kevin Lomax (Keanu Reeves).

Movie Scene Nominee (week 3) - End of Days

Satan's (Gabriel Byrne) speech to Jericho Cane (Arnold Schwarzenegger). Satan is trying to convince Jericho to disclose the whereabouts of Christine York (Robin Tunney).

Movie Scene Nominee (week 4) - Constantine

Satan (Peter Stormare) is talking to John Constantine (Keanu Reeves) in the movie Constantine (2005).

Using sigils tattooed on his arms, John forces Gabriel (Tilda Swinton), to appear, but the angel promptly subdues Constantine. Gabriel laments God’s favoritism towards humans and the forgiveness they are readily given as opposed to any other species. Gabriel believes that bringing Hell to Earth will enable those who survive to become worthy of God’s love through repentance and faith. Gabriel throws Constantine from the room and begins to release Mammon. As Gabriel moves to stab Angela with the Spear and release Mammon, Constantine slits his wrists. Time stops and Lucifer (Peter Stormare), who hates Constantine enough to collect his soul personally, arrives. Constantine tells Lucifer about Mammon’s plan and Lucifer sends Mammon back to Hell to keep Mammon from conquering Earth before him. When Gabriel attempts to smite Lucifer, the angel's wings are burned away and, relieved of holy powers, the angel is defeated.

In return for helping Lucifer Constantine is owed a favour, but rather than asking for an 'extension' and be restored to life, he instead asks that Isabel be allowed to go to Heaven. Lucifer happily obliges, but, as he begins to drag Constantine to Hell, Heaven appears before him; by sacrificing himself for Isabel when there was nothing in it for him, Constantine has proven himself worthy to enter Heaven. Infuriated, Lucifer heals Constantine’s wounds and cures him of his cancer so that Constantine would have a second chance to 'prove that [he] truly belongs in Hell'.

Movie Scene Nominee (week 5) - Meet Joe Black

The movie opens with an introduction to the guide, Bill Parrish (Anthony Hopkins), who doubts that he will live for many more years. Indeed, he is approached in his home and work by what he thinks are hallucinations, wherein Death himself has come with the intention of escorting him to the afterlife. Bill, touched by his dream-like brush with mortality, expresses his desire for his daughter, Susan (Claire Forlani), to live a life with passion. She is considering marriage, but her father is not favorably impressed by her relationship. When she asks for the short version of his impassioned speech, he simply says, "Stay open. Who knows? Lightning could strike!"

Shortly after hearing this advice, Susan meets a vibrant young man (Brad Pitt) with whom she is instantly enamored. Immediately after this encounter (and unbeknownst to her), the man dies in a collision with two cars. Death returns to Bill's home in the form of the young man, explaining that Bill's impassioned speech has piqued his interest after an eternity of boredom. Given Bill's "competence, experience, and wisdom", Death has chosen him and tells Bill that in return for a delay, Bill shall be his guide on Earth. Notably, during his time on Earth, Death's personality alters to become mildly curious, ruminative, and gentle, having been worldly, sardonic, and arrogant until he revealed his appearance.

Paramore: Decode

How can I decide what's right?
When you're clouding up my mind
Can't win your losing fight
all the time

Not gonna ever own what's mine
When you're always taking sides
You won't take away my pride
No, not this time
Not this time

How did we get here?
when I use to know you so well
How did we get here?
Well, I think I know

The truth is hiding in your eyes
And it's hanging on your tongue
Just boiling in my blood,
But you think that I can't see

What kind of man that you are
If you're a man at all
Well, I will figure this one out
on my own
on my own

I'm screaming "I love you so..."
But my thoughts you can't decode

How did we get here?
when I use to know you so well
How did we get here?
Well, I think I know

Do you see what we've done?
We're gonna make such fools of ourselves
Do you see what we've done?
We're gonna make such fools of ourselves

How did we get here?
when I use to know you so well
How did we get here?
Well, I think I know

I think I know
I think I know
There is something I see in you
It might kill me I want it to be true

The Spinners - I'll Be Around

This is our fork in the road
Love's last episode
There's nowhere to go, oh no
You made your choice
Now it's up to me
To bow out gracefully
Though you hold the key
But baby

Whenever you call me I'll be there
Whenever you want me I'll be there
Whenever you need me I'll be there
I'll be around

I knew just what to say
Now I found out today
All the words had slipped away but I know
There's always a chance
A tiny spark will remain
And sparks turn into flames
And love can burn once again
But I know you know...

Whenever you call me, I'll be there
Whenever you want me, I'll be there
Whenever you need me, I'll be there
I'll be around, ya

[Instrumental Interlude]

Whenever you call me, I'll be there
Whenever you want me, I'll be there
Even if I have to crawl
I'll be there
I'll be around
Just call me on the phone
I'll be there
I'll never leave you alone

EVERYONE'S DOING IT (TOO DIRTY FOR TV)

Here is the commercial from the last release for Call of Duty:Modern Warfare 2. Great video.

The game is the seventh installment of the Call of Duty series. It is a sequel to the developer's previous title in the series, Call of Duty: World at War. Benny Benassi - Satisfaction

Keeping the frequency going, this is my favorite Benassi composition. The song is ear candy and the video is totally hot. Its interesting to know Stephen Hawking agreed to be part of such a sexually suggestive video. WTG Stephen Hawking

Benny Benassi - California Dreamin

This song is originally performed by The Mamas and the Papas.  Once you hear the song it will ring a bell.  Benni did a great job using the frequency in the song.  The beats come in fast but the song comes together at 1:05 into the video.  Enjoy.

Arcadia - Election Day

For those that remember Duran Duran... Arcadia was the band that they started after Duran Duran.  During this time Arcadia had this album: So Red The Rose.   Now, that you have received a Duran Duran background, enjoy this track - Election Day.  I found it rather fitting considering the Gubernatorial General Election was today; November 2, 2010.

Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead)

Altar at the entrance
Dia de los Muertos at Hollywood Forever cemetery was originally envisioned for the purpose of providing an authentic venue, in which this ancient tradition could be genuinely observed, celebrated and preserved.  This event has provided a gateway for those who wish to re-acquaint themselves with their deeply rooted traditions and profoundly engage with one of the most devotional celebrations for the continuous cycle of life.

Dia De Los Muertos is one of Mexico's traditional holidays reuniting and honoring beloved ancestors, family and friends. It is an ancient and enduring ritual when the living commune with the dead - a mystical night when the veil is lifted between their two realms and they may share a day together.

Throughout each period in Mexican culture, death seems to hold no terror.  In Mexican art, legends, and religion, death has not been a mysterious and fearful presence but a realistic recognizable character as much a part of life as life itself.  Dia De Los Muertos expresses this perspective; it is not a mournful commemoration but a happy and colorful celebration where Death takes a lively, friendly expression and is not frightening or strange. There is no place for sorrow or weeping for this could be interpreted as discourteous to the dead relatives who are visiting gladly.

This night is an important feast and evocation.  It is a time when family members share memorable stories that evoke the lives of their ancestors.  Offerings and altars are created to welcome and commemorate the dead.  Marigolds and incense are offered in abundance because it is believed their aromatic scents guide the dead to the place where the feast is being held. A profusion of candles dispels the darkness just as the souls are being illuminated from the shadows of death.  Altars are created with photos, mementos, fruit, bread, and other favorite things of the ancestors being welcomed and honored.  The artifacts of these altars also provide the opportunity to teach children about those who came before them.

Dia De Los Muertos is a time of celebration on remembrance.  It is also a time to come to terms with our mortality and become aware of the cycle of life and death.  Rather than deny and fear death this event teaches us to accept and contemplate the meaning of mortality.
